We are notorious overthinkers. We assess, we analyze, we evaluate and then re-evaluate and end up talking ourselves out of most big decisions. It is a wonder we actually had the courage to act on this move at all!
As we drove our way home along the sunshine coast, the list of “things” that were on the list for our move was getting longer and longer.
Car- hubby sold his work truck and with me being “off island” each month for events and such, he will need something to get around in. But with this thought of vehicle, we immediately fall back on the purchase of a work truck… you know, for when he works?
But, he isn’t working yet, and he isn’t even sure what exactly he will end up doing… and if a big hearty (read expensive) truck is really a necessity.
The boat – (here we can actually call it the damn boat) It is a dream, but an expensive dream, with constant costs and a lot of learning involved… especially when you talk about sailing around with three kids and 2 dogs (and a whole lot of duct tape to keep everyone on deck!)
The extra’s…. bbq (we are leaving ours behind as it is plumbed for gas), a vacuum (we had a built in) and all the other little bits that pop up to help you fit into a new place.
The bill seemed to get bigger and bigger… and we really aren’t good with big bills (as mentioned)
So we re-assessed and analyzed and evaluated (and possibly re-evaluated again) We are so unsure of where we will be in 12 months, what we will be doing and what we will need. It seems foolish to make all these commitments to a life we haven’t even tried.
So we put away the cheque book and slow ourselves down and focus (again) on our needs vs our wants. We start looking at “little cars” with “little pricetags” that will meet our needs of running the kids to school and getting milk if one of us is off island.
It isn’t the fun way, that’s for sure, but is what we have always done, and it has gotten us to the position we are in now where we can take some time to do some wandering!
But no… definitely not the fun way, or the exciting way.
But yes, safe and stress-less….. with a little bit of opportunity lingering around the corner!
