We have been over and over this. We have both know he hates his job for about 6 years… maybe longer. It was a means to a supposed end though.
We were mls junkies… constantly searching for an opportunity to maintain our lifestyle, but ditch the job.
But, it’s all so risky. Maybe if we just get more space, or get a rec property, ski more often, travel more… we can balance out the “bad” of his job, with the “great” of his life.
I mean, everyone hates their job, right? You can’t love something like that everyday… that’s why it is called work… not fun!
I said all that to him… over and over again.
Can you believe that? It makes me sick to think back on it. Why do we expect so little from our lives? I mean, I totally know that you can’t be happy all the time. I am not an idiot… But, we can be more happy, can’t we? We can spend our days doing things that make us feel good, that help our community, that are for a purpose?
Can’t we?
We have looked at every way to make this life work… to maintain balance for our kids, to keep them in their school, with their friends. We live in a great place (everybody says so) we have a great home (everybody says so), so why are we so dissatisfied?
Satisfaction is such a funny thing. Is it stuff that makes us happy, adventures, relationships? It is defined as “The fulfillment or gratification of a desire, need, or appetite”
But what if what we have, is not what we desired. What if we have … well, more than we need?
Compare it to food. How much does your body need to eat to be satisfied? If you get too much, you feel bloated, fatigued, overwhelmed? This is how we are feeling about our life. We have too much of what we don’t need. And we are feeling guilty for not wanting it.
So, time to trim the fat. Time to purge. Time to put our family on a cleanse… a diet from all the excess.
If we have the courage…
