Ahh Summertime. Bathing suits and ice cream and all sorts of awesome, except for the “extended” health and beauty regime that needs to happen.
In past years it has been me, with my tub of hair remover, sitting on the bathroom stool and attempting to remove a winters worth of warmth from my lower legs.
But this year, I had company.
I don’t know when the right time to start shaving your legs is, but when my daughter asked me, I felt it was the right time for her. My only request was that she learn how to do it the right way.
I suffered for years with rashes caused from razors after shaving. It was never something that suited my body. When we moved to Salt Spring, and the general ideas and expectations around “beauty” changed, I ditched my razor permanently. From then on, hair removal wasn’t as horrific as it had been in the past, and the irritation was eliminated. I swore that when my girls got older I would impart my wise ways upon them so they wouldn’t suffer the razor burn like I did for 20+ years.
And that is exactly what I did. I provided my little girl with a few options for easy at home hair removal, including hot and cold wax. So many at home kits are easy to use by just heating them in the microwave, on the stove or just warming the strips between your hands.
It has become a bit of a bonding moment as well… although perhaps “bonding” while waxing your legs seems a little farfetched. To share a beauty process that you have refined with your daughter can actually be an impactful thing. Especially when she agrees that this option isn’t really all that bad.
And for all the moms and daughters out there, we have a fun prize pack from Church and Dwight just for you! Filled with 50$ worth of beauty products and perfect for back to school/back to work! Just find yourself a comfy corner and share your tips and tricks, alongside a cup of herbal tea and perhaps a plate of cookies!
