Yes, I know perfect is going pretty far here, but we just had a pretty amazing weekend. Sure, there were a few blips in the days (two meltdowns by the 3yr old blip for starters) but they were so insignificant compared to the big picture of our day.
With me being away all week, we were in family focus mode for the weekend. Friday was supposed to be on the boat, but as the morning progressed and afternoon things landed on the plate, we decided to take it off the list, and just enjoy the day. We gardened, we napped, we did laundry and ate with friends. It was slow, and peaceful, with no timeline or agenda.
Saturday we awoke to a sky filled with sunshine, and the hubby out for the morning. The kids and I kicked it into gear and had a picnic packed and the house tidied by the time he was home and we were on our boat and ready for adventure by lunchtime.
We lifted the sails for the first time, and caught the wind. The littlest napped on the sailboat, and the girls even helped with the rigging. We eventually fell into a calm and languished there for an hour or so. The sails flapping, and the kids playing go-fish in the sunshine. Bathing suits on (in may, I KNOW) and a cold drink it hand. Yes, pretty perfect.
Dinner was done on the BBQ, under the gaze of chatty eagles and barking seals. Juicy Canadian Beef steaks and twice baked potatoes (aka REAL food!) and some of our favorite peanut butter fudge for dessert. Calm waters took us home with me and the kids life jacketed up and sitting on the bow. The breeze was warm, and our cheeks were a little sunburned, but we had enjoyed such easy family time, we were content! It took us 15 minutes to get from the boat to our home . . . bellies full and hearts happy.
