I don’t talk a lot about my other site over here, it usually makes me feel like I am cheating on my chickens, or showing you my fancy clothes, when you are used to seeing me in floppy hats and boyfriend jeans, but sometimes there are things that need to be talked about.
BLUNTmoms was born from the need for me to write 1 post that I couldn’t share here. As a writer I am used to sharing my feelings, and usually my feelings are positive and encouraging. Sometimes nasty things creep in, and being a writer, until those things are dealt with I find I can’t move on.
As an overachiever, I built myself a place to write about that feeling. I wrote about it and it was resolved, but then all these other people came by and asked to be let in so THEY could write about THEIR feelings. . . and BLUNTmoms was born.
As an infant the site was chaos. As mentioned, my goal was to get one thing off my chest, but now I had all these others with stories to tell and me with zero editing skills. I am a great strategist, a fabulous salesperson and a “fine” writer. . . but a disastrous editor.
Along came Magnolia Ripkin. She jumped into BLUNTmoms as a brand new blogger looking for a tribe and a place she could learn the ropes.
6 months after joining our ragtag crew she had me redevelop our whole business concept and appointed herself Editor-in-Chief of the site.
She saw something I didn’t see in BLUNTmoms and she had an idea of how to make it happen. She is the reason the site is known for it’s fabulous content and hard assed editor. She was the fire that sparked the whole big mess.
I laughingly joke that she keeps me around so I can still feel cool, but I know she does appreciate what I bring to the table, and with the two of us at the wheel and our editorial board driving the ship, we have created something pretty fabulous and fulfilling.
I get to look at BLUNTmoms from afar, seeing the big picture and pushing our goals, Magnolia gets to dive into the nitty gritty of our words and define our voice. Our voice is clear and our site is growing at an alarming rate. We are getting international recognition, and the tiny seed of thought I had January 1st, 2013 has become a strong and stable beast.
If you have ever had the opportunity to BE a BLUNTmom you know what we do, but for all others just trust that we are place like no other on the web. Our community is made up of hilarious women who don’t deal in rainbows and hugs, but still let you leave your pity party feeling appreciate and loved. These ladies are the best on the internet and I feel blessed to be able to sit at their table.
So, why am I telling you this?
My dear Mags took a hiatus for health reasons.
But she is back.
And you need to check her out. She writes at Magnolia Ripkin, Advice Blog and, like many amazing writers, she is not getting the visitors she deserves. Right now she needs you to read her words, she needs to see the community rally behind her and I need you to get touched by her genius. Follow her on FACEBOOK too, and Twitter!
I may have given birth to BLUNTmoms, but Magnolia is it’s adoptive parent. I am standing off to the corner signing it up for gymnastics and summer school and she is cleaning it’s scraped knees and nurturing it into a beautiful being.
Go. Visit. Be changed by Magnolia as I have been.
