“They” say that Australians are darn close to Canadians in many things. They are both outdoorsy, Barbecue a lot, are under the Commonwealth and use the metric system. As well, people say our sense of humor is similar (that means they are awesome, just like us!)
Australia seems to be a comfortable place for Canadians to consider moving to when they are done the cold weather and wet winters of their home, but, there are a few things to consider:
– A warm christmas. Sounds cool now, but it is kind of weird. A warm New Years on the other hand is an amazing idea!
– Killer critters – They have 17 poisonous spiders (all of the top 10 deadliest!) as well as crocodiles, nasty jellies, and other creatures that can harm or kill you. And, have you ever stood beside a Kangaroo? They pack a punch!
But, if you still want to give it a try and have no easy way to get a visa (ie: marriage) then you best check the Critical Skills list. This is pretty much the only way you are going to be able to immigrate there, so get studying!
And, if by chance you DO get there, you need to decide East or West!
It is actually a little cheaper to live on the East coast (ie: Sydney) than it is to live on the West (Ie: Perth) but income seems to account for the increase in cost of living. And for those who want to buy a house and think they’ll get a deal in Oz? Think again, housing prices are actually higher than they are in Canada! Yes, even BC!
But, like anywhere, living outside of the city center is always more affordable, and if you want a bit of space, the aussies do have some to spare! Check out FarmBuy for some ideas of available properties and homes!
Australia isn’t a place you will escape to with your pockets full of gold, but if it is a dream, there is always a way to make it a reality!
