I can get caught up in my business some days, and for all good reasons. Over the past two months of summer I have felt a little like a hamster on a wheel. My feet were running, running, running, and I was spinning so fast I could hardly tell where I was going.
It was a kids, work, life, food, dishes, laundry, pets, leg waxing, and then “omg why don’t my pants fit” type of summer.
But the kids are back to school. Which gave me the peace and quiet I was used to to catch up. I deleted emails, replied to messages, wrote content, noted dates, and planned dentist appointments. After doing the top 25% all summer it was a gift to dive deeper and hit the bottom priority items.
And then, I turned off.
I spent a day processing fruit that was seconds away from becoming rotten goo. I cleaned my bathrooms, and found all the socks we had lost over the summer.
I took a breath. One single breath.
And I spent my day remembering WHY I do what I do, and why I built the business I did.
It was so I could enjoy it. Enjoy the clients, enjoy the work, and enjoy the times I wasn’t working.
Life has been a hustle these past months, and eventually we all need to just be appreciative of what we got done and sit back and enjoy it.
And make some plum jam before your harvest rots.
It worked. This one day helped me get all those things that were stressing me out off my list. I got rid of the guilt of letting food go to waste, and I got organized for the weeks ahead. Now I feel more able to tackle my email box, and get the kids to soccer practice on time.
We do this for a reason, whatever it is we are doing. And sometimes we need to take a few steps away to remember what that reason was, and if we are still getting the results we wanted.
So take a moment. Step away.
