I am frequently reminded that my girls are growing up. Some days the laundry will be done before I even go downstairs to check it, and more and more frequently they will be up, fed and with their lunches packed before I even get my first cup of coffee in the mornings.
But last week, it really started to sink in.
A few weeks ago my daughter and I spent the day in the kitchen making a wide range of different Peanut Butter Snack Bites.
We experimented, and explored different flavours, making THREE batches of these no-bake treats. After I went off to do other things, she continued making new creations, that day and then the next. She mastered this easy recipe, and she made it her own.
And then I went away for a week. After I came home I found out that she had continued making these snacks for her family while Mom was away. She pitched in, helped with the meals and made sure everyone had a few extra snacks in their lunches. My little girl showed up when she was needed most, and that made me proud, and far happier to replace the WHOLE JAR of honey she had used up!
She continued to explore recipes, using the 3 basic ingredients:
- 1 Cup large flake rolled oats
- 1/2 Cup ANY variety of Kraft Peanut Butter
- 1/4 Cup honey
Add to that any amazing ingredients you like… My daughter loved the Kraft Chocolate-Peanut Butter Bites with dried cherries and Pecans, as well as the Kraft Coconut Protein Power Bites (my faves for sure). Your options are endless with these easy snacks, and they are also a nice way to use up the “little bits” in the cupboard!

It can sometimes be the smallest things that bring you together, or allow your daughter to show you she really is growing up. To come home and have her excitedly share with me the snacks she had made while I was away, and then have her siblings say how nice it was to have a FRESH treat in their school lunch.. . . well, that IS a memory I will cherish!
