In the 8 months we have been here the kids have been waiting to “hit the movies” on the island. We don’t live near the theater, and so frequently forget to check what’s playing, and if it is age appropriate. We also don’t have tv, so “coming attractions” and the hype around them gets missed here.
And, honestly, I don’t really love doing something for the first time. I like to be prepared, comfortable . . . and while going to a new movie theater may not seem wild and crazy to you, it isn’t your standard city theater . . so it was different. And new.
We finally went this weekend. I took the girls, we watched “the Croods” We paid cash, we got a ticket (the girls held on to theirs the entire show) and we had popcorn.
And we sat there, in this lovely theatre, with 15 or 20 other people, and my eldest turns to me and says “mom, this is so much better than the city”
She told me that it was better because there was only one movie playing, and it was easy to find a seat, and you didn’t lose track of which theater you were in.
And no line ups. Not even for popcorn.
And the movie was scheduled to start at 7pm. Don’t freak out, but guess what time it started.
Exactly 7pm. No 30 minutes of previews (shockingly delightful)
And as we drove home that night, the sun was just setting, and our bellies were full of popcorn and the girls talked about how much they love life here.
It may not seem better to anyone else, but it is better to us. It suits us better. We fit this life.
Even the things I put off doing are easy. Everything is easier.
