If your family is like ours, you have been battling virus’s and illness all winter. I am starting to put some belief into those stories about a virus taking down the entire population.
We have been sick for almost 6 weeks.
We wash our hands, take multi vitamins and we get fresh air and exercise.
We even eat kale.
None of it is working.
I don’t know if this lengthy cold is the new norm, and if it is, I want out.
How on earth can the economy survive if we are all battling 6 weeks of illness in ourselves and then even more in our kids.
I remember when I was working full time with two kids in daycare. First one was sick, then the other. After they were well, I fell victim. In total, I ended up having almost 4 weeks of continuous sick leave that month. The average employee agreement for sick leave can not accommodate working mothers and these lengthy illnesses in our kids.
And today, well, today we woke up with pink eye.
I say we, because even though it is just the 3yr old at the moment, I imagine the rest of us will succumb.
I feel like I am failing as a parent by not keeping my kids (or myself) healthy. It makes me question what we are doing, and what I can change to have the most profound affect.
So, I put it out to you my dear readers. What are your tips for building immunity and fighting these new super bugs?
Or am I off to live in seclusion with my family only allowing visitors after they have experienced a full health screening?
And if anyone says nettle soup – you are welcome to come and brew me a pot . . .I just can’t understand how to pick them!
