Our springtime on the farm was busy, very busy. We were prepping gardens, birthing babies and getting everything ready for growing season. We had friend ask us how we managed the pace, and is there ever a time for rest?
There is. It’s not long, but there was a small window in June and July where where we could sit back and admire our handiwork. We caught up on our sleep, and our muscles were able to rest from the manual labour.
And then, it began again.
Because as they say, Winter is coming.
And when winter comes on the farm, it means something different.
The remainder of our summer is spent prepping for winter- doing what we can before we are deep into the fall harvest, canning, breeding season and burning/clearing for spring. It means even more hard work, and in the hottest months of the year.
Thankfully Hubby and I enjoy the labours we have to do, although after a while it does begin to wear on an old body.
Like the day we spent splitting 2 cords of firewood and then stacking it to dry. And then to look over and see THREE more cords waiting for us to haul and split.
But, come a cold day in December we will be grateful for that stocked wood shed, and the crackling fire keeping our old house warm.
It is the hours spent adding drainage to the goat pen and building additional outdoor covered areas. Did you know goats hate the rain? Which means on this west coast they spend a lot of time in their goat shed, moaning about the weather (and making a HUGE mess of their dry hay) A wet goat is a sick goat, so we need to do everything we can to ensure their comfort and health BEFORE the weather hits.
Add to this all the projects that didn’t get fully finished this spring and we (again) have a heavy load of work to be completed. Which means we again fall into bed exhausted at the end of the day, with tired aching muscles and sore backs, and dehydration.
So, to keep us getting up each morning (and trust me, sometimes it is HARD) we have started using the Orange Naturals Pain Relief cream. Thankfully it is safe for kids and adults, because we aren’t the ONLY ones rolling into bed after a hard days work.
We keep our body hydrated and minerals up after a day of sweat and heat with the Orange Naturals Mag Pop. A refreshingly fun, fizzy way to get the magnesium your body craves! Combined with vitamin C and electrolytes, and no added sugar, artificial colours or flavours, your body will thank you for it’s daily dose of magnesium glycerinate. Click to try MagPop for yourself and “taste the magic”.
In another few weeks we will again have a break. A short one anyway. The wood will be ready for winter, and the goats will be set up in their castle. There will be a week before the fruit is ripe in the orchard and ready for picking, and we can lay in the hammock and gaze at our farm and the abundance it will bring.
And then, it will start all over again.
Good thing we love it.
