for months our lovely hen “Mo” has been broody. She has had a few near misses, with her last clutch of eggs primed and ready only to have her get off them days before they were to hatch.
Along this long process we have been learning with her, and I am excited to share some of our tips and tricks and learnings . .
Because we FINALLY have a chick!
Naturally bred! Naturally brooded, and to be naturally raised, right under the wings of our pretty hen.
More pics to come, but since we are in chaos with our move, I wanted to share a few quick shots with you. When we went down to the coop in the morning I could hear a distinct “cheep, cheep, cheep” Racing back up to tell hubs, we went back down together to get better access and start exploring to see what we could find!
Our little one was VERY fresh! Still damp feathers and all legs and wings.
We let them be and went down to check a few hours later and she was all clean and fluffy (and not looking much like a day old chick at all!)
We are hoping a few more of the eggs will hatch but either way, at least we have this little darling!
More story to come.. but hubby is forcing me to keep packing and moving! Can’t wait to share pics of this little darling at the new coop and new house, with some spring sunshine!
