Summer is only about 6 weeks away, and that automatically instills a deep sense of panic in my “work from home” mom blood. HOW will I manage the 3 kids at home, WHAT will we do?
Summer has never been “vacation time” for our family. With a hubby who works irrigation and landscaping, summer is PEAK season. We usually holiday over the winter, and enjoy lazy days as soon as the weather turns to cold to work. Summer means, me, the kids and a whole lot of empty hours.
And seriously: HOW on EARTH will I manage those 8 weeks with the kids under my feet.
So, I approach it as any entrepreneur would, I make a list. And thanks to a great idea from KFC, I will be making a Summer Bucket List for myself and the kids! Because as much as I need to continue working (and want to) I also want to enjoy some of those lazy summer days with my kiddies. My last little one is starting Kindergarten in September and time is ticking by! Soon they won’t WANT to hang with me at the beach, so I had better get my family time in now!
So, when I asked the kids what they wanted to do this summer, this is what they came up with.
#1 Get Flip-Flops
Yes, we are a simple bunch, and I am not sure what the allure of a new pair of flip-flops is, but the three of them are deadly excited about getting them. This one will be easy to meet, but I think we will make a day of it. Flip flops, and maybe splurge on milkshakes or lunch out at the same time.
#2 Go to the Lake.
The request from my eldest was EVERY DAY we should go to the lake, but I was able to knock that down to once, maybe twice a week. We have a beautiful sunny lake that the kids adore. Warm waters and a great place to hang out with their friends. I am cool with this one as I have a huge pile of books to read, and the best place to read them is the sunny shores of the lake.
#3 Go to the Cabin
Our cabin, well, it used to be a my cabin when I was growing up, is now my parents full time home. Set on the shores of desolation sound in Powell River it is a haven for crabs and starfish and all sorts of exploring. I think a week here, hanging with the g’parents is just what summer ordered up! I am also super keen to get the girls up on water-skis this summer. We have been trying, and I hope this year is the magic year!
#4 Not have to do Anything.
The kids want to enjoy a few days where we don’t have to do ANYTHING. They want to sleep in, have picnics on the lawn, play in the garden and just relax. I mean, isn’t that what summer is all about?
#5 Spend the day on a private island
We have a little island about a 40 minute sail from our place that we love to pop over to and enjoy. A private, white sand beach with little surprises of worn down sea glass. The kids LOVE the spend the day here, and dad and I enjoy popping a bottle of Prosecco after it has been dragged behind the boat in the cold water on our own private island.
Our kids are pretty easy to please, and a lot of the things that WERE on our bucket list have already been achieved. For now we want to enjoy our moments, embrace where we live and be grateful for the beautiful places we have to visit.
And, of course, save up and continue to plan for the future explorations. Check out how dinner can be made easier with KFC and when you make a purchase between May 12 and June 15 you will have the chance to WIN one of these (totally awesome) prizes to help you tick items off your bucket list.
