Spring break is in full swing for us, and with the kids away at the Grandparents for a week things got a little dirty at home with the Hubs and I.
Alone.
And by dirty, I mean really dirty.
Like, the two of us on the couch for a week, suffering from the flu and the piles of dishes stacking up, and laundry getting smellier dirty.
With the kids away, and us having given in to the flu there was no reason to cook, or tidy up. Showers didn’t happen, and our only focus was on getting through the bug and coming out healthy on the other side.
But, we only had a few days to give into this flu. The kids WERE going to be coming home. Eventually we were going to NEED to clean up.
I stumbled out of my fever after 4 days, and a few hours before the kids were due to arrive home. I surveyed the damage, the dishes, the laundry, the smell, and new it was time to bring out the big guns.
Things didn’t just LOOK dirty, they WERE dirty.
First thing to go was the laundry. Load after load, the sweaty flu sheets, the blankets we had wrapped ourselves in for 4 days and the layers of pyjamas that had held us tight during the worst of the fever shakes.
Luckily OxiClean doesn’t just fight the dirt and stains, it fights the stench that happens when mom and dad start growing into the couch.
Next was the kitchen.
The vile kitchen. A weeks worth of “cups of tea” and plates of toast. An empty fridge and an overloaded recycling bin. A kitchen floor that had been ignored for days on end, with mucky puppy prints all over it.
During my clean the fever came back up, but dragging the vacuum around and disinfecting all the door handles and light switches just forced me to sweat it out.
I scrubbed, laundered, dishwasher and cleaned my little heart out, pausing to rest and catch my breath (more frequently than normal since I hadn’t really eaten in a 4 days) I remove all sign of the dirty, dirty week that the hubby and I had experienced, so as not to tarnish our children’s ideas of their hardworking parents.
A few hours later the kids walked in the door, a family dinner in the oven, floors a sparkling and the smell of clean sheets on the bed.
About 5 minutes after that I collapsed back on the couch to recover from my clean-fest.
