We all wear capes and costumes for different things in our life, and sometimes they allow us to be more than we think we are.
To be able to wear the cloak of a superhero, and then to have the confidence to BE that superhero? I think that is all okay in my book.
So when my little dude started wearing his Spiderman costumes all-the-time.. I rolled with it.
Because “sometimes we need to be a superhero” Right?
Sometimes we need to put on the makeup, curl our hair and get out of the gumboots and be something else for a day, or an hour…
And I think that is just fine. I believe that we all have different parts of ourselves that need to come out at various times. We can’t be all things, all the time…. and it should be ok to pick and choose what we want to share with the world today.
If it makes you more able to do what need to be done, or participate as you are required to, then wear the cape and mask and work it for all it’s worth.
Of course, if you go so far as putting on the tights… well, that might be uncomfortable for everyone involved.
And if my little guy wants to wear his Spiderman costume to the grocery store or on the ferry. . . I am going to suck up my gut, smile at him and say he looks awesome. I am going to help him “own” being spiderman that day . . maybe that is exactly what he needs.
And yes. . . we while we are getting awesome “everyday” use out of this costume, it will ALSO be his halloween attire! So watch out above. . . spidey is coming to town!
