Life is funny sometimes (okay, all the time. Life is funny ALL the time)
I spent last week deep in thought about our one year anniversary of “the big decision” and then, when the actual day rolled around, we were a bit too busy having fun to even notice it. It came and went with laughter, and great food and family.
And I think that is pretty fabulous. I mean, that’s what it is about, right? We made this “Big Decision” so we could enjoy our life more, and how wonderful that on the one year date, that is exactly what we were doing.
With frogs even. Lot’s of frogs.
Every night the frogs sing us to sleep. Hundreds of them. The kids have been keen to go frog hunting in our pond and see what we could stir up.
So that evening, nets and buckets in hand, we took off down to the pond and started frog hunting.
Now, this it isn’t as easy as you might think to find a frog, and as the hubby said “One must think like a frog to catch a frog”
I mostly watched from the sidelines, but the hubby did walk away from the ordeal (dry) and with two frog prisoners.
Now, here is where the problem begins. After the exertion of catching a frog, the passion and creativity needed to actually get it in the net, it is always difficult to explain to the 7yr old why we would release the frog again.
But, as the accidental killer of many “pet” frogs in my youth, I draw the line at keeping these critters with us. Especially when we have a pond full and then can happily hop away to their family.
So through tears and drama, we said goodbye to Riddles and Henry and sent them back into the wild.
And then, back up to the house for cocoa’s and snuggles. It was a beautiful way to close off our first year of decision making. Soggy feet, frog hands and hot cocoa, my family curled up around me and having completely forgotten that tonight was the night where it all started a year ago.
I think that says an awful lot, don’t you?
