This year I have been trying very hard to make positive changes to our family lifestyle. Getting more exercise, more family time together, more quality sleep and concentrating on healthy eating. Part of that healthy eating was replacing sugary drinks with more water, something that was at first difficult but is now just what we do. We all feel better, look better and reach for water before anything else. We are lucky to have a well on our property that consistently pumps out clean, fresh water. It does slow down over the dry summer months, but never are we without water. This is not the case for many people living in Kenya, which I recently learned thanks to an initiative from Brita Canada and Me to We.
Brita Canada and We.org have partnered on a sustainability initiative to provide a community in Kenya with clean water, through the build of a borehole (a series of water wells). This March, Brita Canada is launching a limited edition statement bottle to celebrate. With the purchase of every bottle, someone in Kenya will receive a year of clean water. Not only is this a wonderful way to give back, using a Brita to-go water bottle saves hundreds of plastic bottles from ending up in the landfill.
This is something close to my heart, and I jumped at the chance to be a part of this life giving program. Water is precious, and living on a farm, on an island that goes through a drought season, we harvest rainwater to sustain our animals and gardens, and as a backup for our own well water. To have the opportunity to provide someone else clean, fresh drinking water was a no brainer for me, especially since we use the BRITA system in our own home, and my kids are enthusiastic about the Me to We movement.
As part of Me to We’s transparent giving model, all Me to We Brita products come with a track your impact code so consumers can track exactly where and how their purchase has made an impact by going online and entering their unique code. This is cool. Not only does your purchase help, you can see it helping!
If you are passionate about the environment and clean drinking water for all, check out this awesome initiative and help give the gift of life sustaining water to someone in need. You can find your bottle at Wal-Mart, Real Canadian Superstore, Real Atlantic Superstore, Loblaws and Zehrs locations.
