So, a family walks into a park with a chicken and two ducks, and a platter of cheese and crackers. . .
kind of sounds like the start of a bad joke, doesn’t it?
In fact, it was our saturday night.
Seriously. We brought a chicken and two ducks to the park for a BBQ
And no, we weren’t BBQ-ing the poultry.
With the girls in 4-H here on Saltspring Island, unusual things like this often pop up.
And that is how we found ourselves dining side-by-side with geese, ducks, chickens and even two goats.
Taking the chicken on the swing, having a “runner duck” race (those things are fast) and then giving the kids time to explain and chat about their fowl pets and learn more about handling and health.
All while we ate pulled pork, and munched on fresh corn.
It was one of those nights were you look around you, see your kids playing with chickens in the park and wonder just how you got here.
Cause “here” is a pretty cool place to be.
